2 Tips To Help Keep Your Mouth Bacteria Free After Getting An Allograft For Your Dental Implants

Health & Medical Blog

Having a healthy gum foundation is extremely important when it comes to getting dental implants. If your dentist feels that your gums are not healthy enough, then they may suggest an allograft. An allograft surgical procedure involves taking tissue from someone else and placing it in your gums. The healing process for this procedure is extensive. During your recovery process, your surgical site is more susceptible to developing an infection. A bacterial infection can result in a major setback. Therefore, it is important for you to keep your mouth free f bacteria while your gums heal. Luckily, there are a few tips that you can use in order to do this.

Use a Pine Needle Antibacterial Rinse After Meals

After an oral surgical procedure, an antibacterial rinse is a good way to keep your mouth clean without aggravating the surgical site. After the allograft procedure, your gums may feel tender and sore;therefore, it will be difficult to brush your teeth without aggravating your gums. You can create a simple antibacterial rinse using pine needle oil. Simply boil a small pot of water. Add three drops of the oil to the water along with four slices of limes. Allow the rinse to sit until it cools, then use it to clean your mouth. Briefly focus on your surgical site, then use your head to move it to other areas throughout your mouth. Use the rinse immediately after eating in order to get rid of leftover contaminants.

Eat Soft Foods

During the first few weeks after your allograft procedure, you may notice that your teeth and gums are sensitive. Your mouth is still fragile during this period. Therefore, eating foods that are hard and difficult to chew will not only aggravate your gums but they can become lodged along your gum line. If this food is not removed it can result in bacterial buildup. Therefore, it is important to stick to soft foods during this time. These foods are easy to remove with an antibacterial rinse and are much gentler on your gums. Broths and pasta are good examples of foods that should be eaten while your gums recover. These foods will help to limit your chances developing bacteria buildup.

How you treat your mouth after the procedure is important to your healing process. Therefore, use these tips to make sure that your mouth remains as free as possible from bacteria buildup. For more information, consult your dentist (like David Jackson, DDS).
